Bryant Theodile was born in
Louisiana in 1962. Bryant began his boxing career in 1989 where he met Elijah
Thomas who at the time was manager to Oliver McCall former heavyweight
champion of the world. Bryant knew he had a natural ability to absorb, learn,
and become creative in many different styles of boxing. Although Bryant knew
he possessed this magnificent gift from God for the sport of boxing, keeping
his faith and focus in the ring wasn't always an easy task.
In 1983 Bryant
moved to the windy city of Chicago after leaving the University of Wisconsin
where he studied for 3 years while playing college football. During his stay
in Chicago Bryant tried working odd jobs around the city as a landscaper which
was not a fulfilling venture for him. Soon after being frustrated with his
minimum wage job he began to use his many gifts of influence to organize young
black men in there quest to make "street money". Bryant was part of one of
the largest street gangs in America called "The Gangster Disciples". Although
Bryant was involved in many wrong doings in the community he never lost his
love for God and boxing.
During his heavy
involvement in the "under-world" of crime Bryant was indicted by the FBI for a
substantial amount of money and was charged with many crimes under the federal
guide lines. At that moment Bryant knew he needed to reach to his God for
mercy and help. While incarcerated Bryant made a promise to God he would
change his life in exchange for his freedom by becoming Heavy Weight Champion
of the world and using this blessing as a foot throne to serve God.
Bryant moved to Los
Angeles in 1992 where he was introduced to Billy Blanks the creator of "Taebo"
who then introduced him to his General Manager/Black belt instructor John
Arthur who is current manager to Heavy Weight Champion James "Lights out"
Toney. Soon after Bryant was introduced to the late great Archie Moore former
light heavy weight champion who continued his boxing career well into his
fifties. Archie Moore's last fight was against Mohammed Ali at the age of
53. Archie Moore was also trainer to George Foreman during his return for the
heavy weight championship of the world against Evander Holyfield after being
retired for 19 years. During his stay in Los Angeles John Arthur and Emauel
Lewis child star better known as " Webster" took Bryant into there home where
he lived for 1 year.
Bryant was
introduced to actress Debbie Allen and former NBA player Norm Nixon who
briefly managed Bryant for a short period of time. Bryant soon relocated to
San Francisco, Ca where he had the pleasure of meeting founder of "Kronk
Boxing Gym" Emmauel Steward who at the time was training Lennox Lewis and
Tommy "Hitman' Hearns. Emmanuel Steward had the opportunity to witness Bryant
spar against Oliver McCall who at the time was training to fight Lennox Lewis
for The Heavy Weight Championship in London, England. At that time Emmanuel
Steward sat Bryant down and asked him one question. "How many amateur or
professional fights have you had? Bryant replied "none". Emmanuel Steward
looked into Bryant's eyes and said to him "you are a natural". Emmauel Steward
immediately signed Bryant to a 5 year contract. Until this day Bryant Theodile
is the only fighter that Emmauel Steward has ever signed without having an
amateur or professional background.
Bryant's
career was "snuffed out" ruptured tendon Achilles on his right leg. At that
time Bryant was forced out of the ring. With heavy rehabilitation and
determination at the University of Michigan Bryant was able to regain mobility
in his legs. Through the Grace of God Bryant was able to restore all his many
abilities and talents to continue his quest to fulfill his promise to God.
Bryant moved
back to Southern Ca where he contacted his old friend John Arthur who
propositioned him with the offer of becoming body guard and training mate to
James "Lights Out" Toney. Bryant accepted the offer and moved into James
"Lights Out' Toney's house which he was shared with his wife and kids. There
Bryant learned many secrets behind James Toney life and compassion for
boxing. In fact, the two became so close that James Toney became Bryant's
mentor and agreed to never fight one another in the ring. James Toney told
Bryant "he had the chance to become a better fighter than he"... James then
looked into Bryant's eyes and said jokingly " well you say you believe in God,
any things possible".
Soon after
Bryant was able to sign a contract with a movie producer who wanted to have
Bryant star in his own reality TV show and relocated him to Las Vegas, NV
where he currently resides. Bryant now trains at Top Rank Boxing Gym with
Jessie Reid who has trained 22 and counting world champions including Hector
Camacho, Mike Tyson, world trainer Roger Mayweather, and boxing ad visor
Hedgeman Lewis former champion and former asst. of the late great Eddie Futch.
Bryant is currently sparring with Ty Fields heavy weight contender who is 6'8
ft. 33 and 1 professional record.
At 42, God
has reinvented Bryant's boxing career in a whole new light as "The Ultimate
Natural". Bryant is currently training for a scheduled fight on Oct. 7, 2006
at the United Center in Chicago, IL promoted by Don King Promotions on the
under card of Nicolau Valuev Heavy Weight Champion of the world. Bryant is
also scheduled to arrive in Chicago 4 weeks prior to the fight to spar with
Nicolau Valuev which gives him great sparring opportunities.
Bryant has
a very busy schedule for the next year. Bryant is scheduled to fight in 10
professional fights. Moving at Gods speed. Bryant Theodile is the wave of the
future, he is the truth. "The Headbanger" 777.
